Cliff Bleszinski, the mastermind behind the Gears of War series, has proposed a God of War-style reboot for the games. He cheekily added that all Xbox needs to do is give him a ring.
In an interview with Comic Book about his forthcoming comic, Scrapper, talk naturally transitioned to his famed shooter series. Bleszinski offered his consultancy services to Microsoft on any potential plans for the series and suggested a slight reboot akin to what God of War underwent in 2018.
"I've always stated this; Phil Spencer has my contact," he said. "I'm more than willing to offer my advice. The Gears series will forever hold a special place in my heart."
Bleszinski took a trip down memory lane with regards to the entire series during the conversation and disclosed that he often enjoys re-watching pivotal Gears of War cutscenes on YouTube while sipping mimosa.
He also shared an anecdote about having lunch with Karen Gillan from Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Doctor Who at GalaxyCon in Raleigh and how they discussed impactful scenes from their respective works.
The developer fondly recalled reactions from fans who were moved by various Gears of War cutscenes - moments where players confessed they had to pause gameplay because they were so taken aback. This feedback was incredibly meaningful for him. The same sentiment applied when he learns about fans getting tattoos inspired by Gears of War.
"It's immensely flattering when people tattoo something you created onto their bodies," he stated.
When the interviewer mentioned that Gears of War 3 was the first game that made them tear up, CliffyB responded: "That means so much to me, even as I sit here wearing a shirt that reads 'I eat ass' in Japanese."
