Sony has experienced considerable triumph with the television and film adaptations of its PlayStation games—Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Twisted Metal, to name just a few—and it has numerous more in store. However, not all intended adaptations seem to be moving forward as planned.
In particular, it appears that Netflix's intended adaptation of Sony's Horizon, a video game series by Guerrilla, has been halted. According to Rolling Stone, this alleged discontinuation is linked to claims against Steven Blackman, the proposed showrunner for Horizon, concerning a pattern of intimidating and manipulative behavior on set. Blackman is recognized for his work as the showrunner for The Umbrella Academy on Netflix.
It's still unclear whether the Horizon will resume with a new creative lead, but as it stands, it doesn't seem as though the show will progress as initially planned.
Apart from Horizon, Sony is collaborating with several partners on new or ongoing adaptations of its PlayStation games. These include a follow-up season of The Last of Us, a second Uncharted film, a film based on Ghost of Tsushima, an Amazon Prime series inspired by God of War, and several others.
Furthermore, Sony is set to unveil a Horizon spinoff game, LEGO Horizon Adventures, later this year. Studio Gobo and Guerrilla co-developed the game, which will be available on the PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
