Sony has unveiled the most downloaded games from the PlayStation Store for the year 2023, offering an insight into gaming preferences across different platforms and regions.
With detailed charts for the top 20 games for both PS4 and PS5 across the US/Canada and Europe, the gaming landscape has shown a diverse interest in titles. Additionally, Sony presented the top ten lists for PlayStation VR games, PlayStation VR2 titles, and the free-to-play category for each region.
The sports genre secured a significant portion of the charts, claiming 20 out of the 80 spots on the PS4 and PS5 charts combined. Rockstar games were also prominent, landing seven spots, followed closely by Call of Duty titles with six positions.
"Hogwarts Legacy" emerged as a fan favorite, topping the PS5 chart in the US/Canada region. It was closely followed by "Modern Warfare 3", "Marvel’s Spider-Man 2", "Madden NFL 24", and "NBA 2K24".
In Europe's PS5 charts, "EA Sports FC" led the pack, with "Hogwarts Legacy" and "Modern Warfare 3" trailing behind and notable appearances by "Grand Theft Auto 5" and "Spider-Man 2".
The PS4 audience had their own clear favorites, with "Modern Warfare 3" claiming the lead in the US/Canada, and "EA Sports FC" in Europe. Notable mentions include "MLB The Show 23", "Madden NFL 24", "NBA 2K24", "Minecraft", "Red Dead Redemption 2", "Grand Theft Auto 5", and "FIFA 23".
When it comes to the immersive world of VR, "Pavlov" topped the charts for PS VR2 games in both regions. "Beat Saber" and "Kayak VR: Mirage" also enjoyed top spots, with their placements switching between second and third depending on the region.
As for PS VR, "Beat Saber" ruled in the US/Canada, while "Job Simulator" took the lead in Europe, followed by the popular "Superhot VR".
The free-to-play category saw "Fortnite", "Roblox", and "Call of Duty: Warzone" as the top downloads consistently in both regions.
Additionally, a buzz has been created in the gaming community with a reputed dataminer allegedly uncovering the full title of the upcoming "Death Stranding" sequel. The game, purportedly named "Death Stranding 2 – On The Beach", is rumored to be officially unveiled in the next two weeks.
